Breadth and balance is the key to giving every pupil the opportunity to succeed
As well as a full core curriculum (English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, Modern Foreign Languages and Latin), pupils in the Lower School enjoy a diverse spread of practical and creative subjects, including Art, Design Technology, Food and Textiles, Music, Computing, Drama, Games and Physical Education.
In the 1st Form, all pupils take French or Spanish and Latin. In the 2nd Form, students continue with French or Spanish and also have the opportunity to study German. Some students opt to take Classical Civilisation instead of Latin, ensuring that all our students have a sound grounding in myths, ideas, and the history that underpin and continue to shape western culture. All subjects are taught in form groups, except for Mathematics and Languages which are taught in sets by ability.
We have developed our own ‘Pursuit of Excellence’ course. This has been highly successful in laying firm foundations for future study. Pupils have engaged in research and presentation skills to encourage independent learning, debating of topical issues, mindfulness and mental wellbeing, the rules of etiquette and even touch-typing.
The teachers make it fun and the classrooms aren’t boring but we feel safe and get into the learning mode. The pupils in your class help you if you need help or are feeling down. King Edward’s classes are places you can learn new things and positively work with your friends.
