This year's Old Witleians Summer Reunion took place at King Edward's on an incredibly hot Saturday, 30 June. Although some were unable to join us, we were delighted to welcome many Old Witleians to the day's activities.
Starting slightly earlier than before as requested in the feedback from the last year's event, the programme begam at 10.30am with Registration and Refreshments in the Library. This was followed by a welcome speech and a quick orientation walk for any who wished to join. The Chapel Service was led by the School Chaplain and included an Anthem by John Rutter, sung by King Edward's choir, as well as three hymns the final one being the School Hymn written by ACB Bellerby who was Headmaster between 1926 and 1951. From here everyone was escorted to the Selborne Room for a delicious, informal hot buffet lunch created and served by the School's excellent catering team.
After the various speeches and thank you's, and the annual group photograph in the Quad, guests were invited on a tour of the School by serveral Sixth Form Prefects. At the same time, the Old Wits v School cricket match took place on the cricket pitch with well needed refreshements awaiting for everyone in the Pavillion both at the start and then again at teatime.
The day concluded with afternoon tea and cake back in the Selborne Room and a gentle meander through a series of photographs on our Old Witleian exhibition boards as well as some old and some new books to browse. In the evening, the annual Proms in the Park outdoor concert took place and this year it was on the lawn outside QMH. As usual there was no charge to stay on for this and those who did, were invited to bring a picnic and chair and enjoy relaxing on the lawns while listening to the excellent school music ensembles and soloists.
