Design Technology - Resistant Materials
Design and Technology plays an important part in our everyday lives and at King Edward's we have the facilities to allow pupils of all ages to explore every aspect of the subject

The department is housed in a spacious building with a suite of multi media workshops and graphics rooms and processes used by pupils are similar to those used by industry.
Lower School pupils experience the subject as part of their core curriculum and the basic skills of all disciplines are taught in realistic problem solving situations. Pupils are introduced to the Design Process, Workshop Safety, Short Design and then make projects in wood, plastic and metal, use CAD and learn drawing techniques. In the Third Form, pupils study certain aspects of the GCSE specifications on offer in order to give them a head start when they begin their GCSE studies.
Once the basic knowledge has been obtained, pupils develop their own ideas at GCSE and IB with the help of focussed practical tasks.
There is ample opportunity for pupils to continue their studies, catch up on their project work, repair things or make props to support drama or their other subjects during prep sessions and activity times. There is also an after school DT club one day a week as a formal activity.
